I admit, I haven't seen any of his cartoons (I hope they release a Walt Disney Treasures DVD set of them), but if they re-establish his popularity, it might be fun to see him and pose for pictures with him. (Maybe he and Mickey could have an ongoing friendly rivalry.)

    That evolved over the years, though. Mickey was a much darker, more mischievous character in the early shorts.

    How so? I could describe him as curious (ex. Through the Looking Glass) or mishappen but never mischievous.

    Well, by "Through the Looking Glass", Mickey had lost some of that early barnyard behavior. If you watch some of the very early black & white shorts, you will see him doing things very un-Mickey. Pulling cat's tails, pulling a gun on someone, smoking, drinking, and other things. He was definitely a rascal early on.
