But even with out that, I don't want to say "You in country X are denied the right to unionize and are given 10 hour shifts, so to help you out, I'm going to try my best to shut down your factory." So I tend to be of the global persuasion. But on the other hand, the amount of energy that is wasted shipping stuff around the world bothers me. So both of our cars were made in North America - and I made a point about that. The other day I saw oranges from South Africa. Now, I don't expect my bananas to be grown across town. But as a Californian, it just doesn't seem right buying imported oranges. So I will often look at the sticker on produce, and go for what's been grown in the US. Just my take on it, since you asked.

How do you determine that your car is an import when some of them are assembled in American plants? Or shoes are Italian but made from American or Brazilian leather? Or your roast beef sandwich from the Arby's down the block comes from Argentinian beef?

I actually had planned to start a thread where people could post American made stuff and WHERE they bought it. Making it even more local, I rarely buy produce if it's not locally grown. I do make exceptions for Florida Oranges and California Avocados (or the occasional exotic fruit) but that's pretty much it.
