I took the Greyhound up, which ran about $26 roundtrip(a bargain compared to the cost of gas it takes to drive up in our truck) and arrived around 9:30. On the ride, I got into the spirit of things by listening to my Disney playlist on the iPod.
First thing I did: Grand Circle Tour of the Magic Kingdom on the DLRR! Oh what a terrific way to start the day- full of nostalgia and a chance to observe everyone in the park.
I took my time with everything... riding IASW since missing it the last few times I've gone, The Mark Twain, lunch at Coke Corner (Corndog and a Mint Julep), sketching the Mattahorn, etc. When I was in Frontierland, I observed a black swan swallowing a fish in the pond that flanks the entry bridge- pretty cool!
I also got to meet up with some wonderful old friends, Rod and Ruthie, I met back in '05 (as my brother and I waited for the Parade to start the weekend of the 50th celebration). We met at the Tiki Room and sang with the birdies, and then rode IASW with their family. Loved getting to spend that time together!
It's nice to be able to have the freedom and autonomy to do whatever you want, on your own time as a single person, however I do miss being able to share experiences with someone along the way. That's why it was so good to see iamsally and her husband. Plus, I've just missed them :)
After meeting up with another friend briefly (a local who goes several times a week) for a ride on Big Thunder, I took advantage of the single rider option on the Matterhorn. Hadn't done that ride in a long time!
Wrapped the day up with a Dalmatian Sundae from the Gibson Girl as I addressed a couple of postcards to some friends in the Bay Area.
Also I noticed the day was apparently an unofficial "dapper" kind of day (called PinupParade?) as about 20% of the guests were wearing their vintage clothes, sporting victory roll pin curls, fancy hats and even some Disney Character-inspired outfits.
All in all, had a wonderful short day trip on my own. Left the park around 4 p.m. and walked back to the Greyhound Station, glad to rest up on the way home.
    Until next time!
