My fun-o-meter was reading approximately the same as it was earlier in the middle of the parking garage.

Is this what's considered fun nowadays? Does, like, something interesting happen past my bedtime or something? Did they all stop what they were **really** doing when they saw me coming?

Dang I'm old. The one cool thing was that Monsters Inc. was open and completely deserted. I mean literally. No one but cast members.

Truthfully, I don't blame Disney for keeping it. After several drinks and oxygen-depleting dance moves, who really cares what the surrounding theme is?

They could replace the lightcycle with Pee Wee Herman's red Schwinn and nobody would notice or care.

And of course there tons of "new" stuff in the pipeline for DCA, including 'Mermaid' in a bit less than three months.

There's still plenty of stuff to gripe about DCA, but a lack of anything new isn't one of them.

As for the annoyance factor, it seems that these after-dark parties have proven popular enough that whether it's themed to TRON, or day-glo colors, or something else, they're going to continue.

Maybe in the fall they'll swap it out for Cars 2. Since the story takes place in europe it doesn't exacly theme to DCA, but when has that ever stopped them?

Who's to say that Disney couldn't do Glow Fest on their own? I thought that the reason that it was outsourced last year was that it was a fairly last-minute addition to the summer line-up, and all of Disney's focus was on getting WOC ready, and the logistics of filling the viewing area each night. They will have had a full year to come up with their own version of Glow Fest, but instead we just get an extention of the overly-corporately-branded ElecTRONica. (Of course Glow Fest was Disney-branded too, but it was much more subtle, and could be enjoyed without any sort of character involvement).

I've heard a rumor that they won't just continue, but they will be expanding as well. In coming months (I'm not sure if it is scheduled for late spring or the summer), there will be a POTC 4-themed event at the Festival Area in DL. After the success of Glow Fest and ElecTRONica, and the Family Fun Weekends, it just seemed to be a perfect fit. It sounds like they are planning on doing something that involves fairly structured stations (one at the petting zoo, one in the area, and one at the Barbecue), where entire groups will be moved from one to another together. I also heard that they will be showing some sort of extended preview for the film, but only at night, since the whole thing will be outdoors.

Obviously there will not be alcohol, since it's in DL, but this seems to be another step away from the Glow Fest format, in the direction of ElecTRONica. Instead of just showing up and doing your thing, like at GF, it will be more structured, with smaller events along the way, like ElecTRONica. However, unlike the ElecTRONica setup, where you go from one station to another at your leisure, and only do the ones that you want to, the POTC thing will clump guests into groups, and send them through in a progression. It will be interesting to see how this turns out (I really didn't hear anything about what it would acually include, other than a Jack Sparrow meet and greet and the film preview at night), and if they keep the rigid structure that it has now.

And I asked her if she went on Pirates, making chatty conversation as she scanned my items. But you know what she just had to tell me about? She and her kids absolutely loved the "dance party thing in the California park". Upon further questioning, because that didn't ring a bell with me, it turns out she was talking about elecTRONica. She loved it, and her kids loved it, and it was their favorite thing of an entire sunny winters day spent park hopping at Disneyland Resort. elecTRONica.

I can fully appreciate that it's a cost saving move by TDA to keep it around through the summer. But it's still popular, and people still really like it; especially those people who don't go to Disneyland every two or three weeks of their entire adult lives.

It's hip, it's zippy, it's fun, and the kids can dance to it. What's not to like for 7 more months?

It could be worse. Much worse. It could be like the painfully bad dance party things they try to put on in WDW parks, where Stitch does the Macarena with Midwest soccer moms and their adorable children. Behold the tragic embrassment that Walt Disney World routinely trots out as "hip" dance party entertainment in their theme parks... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...N5WikUk0

I'll take elecTRONica through Labor Day, thank you very much. Care to meet me at the bar?

Call it what you want, it's still dance music and blinking lights and cocktails. Disney didn't exactly invent this concept.
