"Mommy, would ketchup be good on a bacon sandwich?"

I was stymied. Stumped. At a complete loss for words. The only condiments I have ever had on bacon sandwiches are mayonnaise (eh) or Miracle Whip (nectar of the gods). So I had to admit that I really don't know if it would be good, but it sounded rather disgusting to me. Being a fairminded mommy, however, I did tell her that probably some people loved ketchup on bacon sandwiches.

So. Let us not let another year go by without some answers to this pressing and very important question. . . *is* ketchup good on bacon sandwiches?

First of all either white or whole wheat bread is acceptable.

Secondly, toasting is an option - it's up to the little Glitter. I prefer toasted.

Thirdly, some people like tomato on it too (Think BLT). I personally love an over easy egg. Then I can dip it in the egg yolk when I cut the sandwich in two.

And no, contrary to popular belief, it does NOT have to be Canadian bacon.

I think that answers all your questions. Enjoy 2007. Start it off with a bang - make bacon sandwiches for breakfast.

Ketchup doesn't go on my bacon. C'est la vie. But I also like cucumber and tomato with my bacon sandwich ;P

Ketchup and runny egg yolk sounds a bit gross to me. I think I may have to wait for TDG's opinion on that particular combination.

Don't get me wrong. I like ketchup as much as the next guy. I can't even count the number of nights when I've gotten out of bed, gone down to the kitchen and poured myself a wonderful glass of ketchup on the rocks for a late night drink.

But as delightful a beverage as ketchup might be, it should NOT be put on bacon sandwiches and anyone who would suggest that it should is nothing other than a heathen.

    *gulp*

    My answer, Pixie?

    I don't know.

But that's not why I'm intimidated by Trippy. See, here's the thing---ketchup does have its natural place with bacon. Think about it--why else would every other time I go to Wendy's, I order a "Big Bacon Classicâ„¢ with ketchup only"? Because the bun, beef, cheese, BACON and KETCHUP are delightfully delish.

    HOWEVER...

Once or twice a week when I go to Subway and order a Chicken & Bacon Ranchâ„¢, it's just that---ranch, NO ketchup. Bun, chicken, bacon, shredded cheese, and ranch. Ketchup doesn't have a place there, and it knows it (and respects and understands that, thank goodness---we had a long talk one night at the kitchen table [I got it out of the refrigerator for that talk specifically---I was very nervous]).

So I would say it all depends on what you have on the sandwich. Bacon and beef together are welcome to ketchup, but bacon and chicken are not. It's just a very tricky world out there, as the Glitters are learning.

And Trippy, ketchup OR chili and cheese on hot dogs please---no mustard. No matter what my condiment/food preferences, I hope you will still respect me in the morning. ;-)
