Maybe consider a day trip to Catalina Island.

For beaches, I recommend Seal Beach. It is where you'll find more locals than tourists.

Catalina is fun too..Avalon is a neat town and there are lots of eateries, shops and of course, bars..lol. Go snorkling in Lovers cove or emerald bay (a great way to spend a few hours in the ociea..lol). Be prepared through, round trip boat tickets can be a bit pricey~

If you belong to the AAA or know someone that does, get a Calif tour book, they have one for southern and northern calif, it has places of interest and eating places, hotels and etc.

    Who knew?

Wasn't that what DCA was for? So we needn't go outside the resort to see and experience California?

The Grove (Which is within the same city block as CBS Studios and Farmer's Market).

The Grove is sort of like an outdoor mall .. but with an emphasis on entertaining. It's got a few good restaurants. A pretty good movie theater complex. And a few "Disneyland" type details like a Trolley that runs through it. A water fountain show - aka the Bellagio Water Show .. but on a smaller scale, and some other nice details.

Then .... north of LA in Glendale to be exact (crossing into the San Fernando Valley) .. is American @ Brand ... which is basically what The Grove is .. but on a larger scale.

Nice hang-outs .. especially in the evening. Get a bite to eat. Soak in the pleasant "Main Street, USA" type ambiance, and perhaps see a movie. Both places have a nice book store.

But if you go to The Grove ... along with the famous Farmer's Market, could be fun.
