Maybe I shouldn't ask this, but does anybody know if she names particular motels?

I can tell you this, it really affects the children when they have to live in motels, and move around so much. I didn't think it would affect mine so much b/c they were so little but it still did, and I wish I could of changed how we lived there for the first two years of my daughters lives.

I always wonder how DL's $10/hr employees survive in OC? Do they also receive welfare? Do they share a 2 bedroom apt with 6 roommates?

They might not even live in Orange County, but commute from Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

I know a couple people who could not continue working at Disneyland because their cars broke down. They couldn't afford to move closer to work either.

I dunno... I am not nearly as regular at Disneyland as most folks here, but I recall a lot of adults working there on my trips...

Wou'dn't that be prohibitively expensive? Why notg just get a $10/hr job that's closer to home?

Sometimes you have to go where the jobs are, and count yourself lucky. I think most people would agree that it's better to have a minimum wage job and spend a big chunk of your time and money commuting than to have no job at all.

This isn't anywhere near accurate. Maybe 3-4 years ago in certain parts of Orange County, but not now.

I understand your point, but being as vast as metro LA is one would think that it would be possible to find a job closer to home, but what do I know. I could see it being trickier than a few years ago. Then again, $10/hr doesn't go all that far in Riverside County either.

Heck, even here in Podunky Larimer County Colorado $10/hr is a poverty wage, and newish houses here can be bought for 150K.

Just for kicks I zillowed my childhood home in Fountain Valley. I know that Zillow's "Zestimates" are a little on the high side, but the old homestead, which is almost 50 years old and is only 1500 sq ft, was Zestimated at 588K. ther houses in the neighborhood were estimated to be from 500k-700K.

Maybe the old Talbert Village neighborhood is considered "upscale" these days, I wouldn't know as I haven't set foot in there for about 20+ years.

    Bingo.

But my point is this- your statement generalized about all of Orange County. While it obviously has some affluent parts, overall it isn't as you describe it.
