I have some pictures I got from my parents that I wanna make some copies of. But I'm not sure what the best/most inexpensive way to do this is. I not only am interested in having them as pictures, but also (even moreso) of making photo products/gifts from some of the images for some relatives.

So would I bother with a digital photo center at a Kinko's or Walgreen's or what-have-you at all, or just use a scanner on a library computer or somethin' and e-mail them to myself and upload those images into my digital photo library at home, or what? I'm thinkin' if I went to a store I couldn't e-mail them to myself, and I want to do that (e-mail) so I can do the product/gift thing from home at the photo website I use. But even then I don't know if the images would be big enough---I've never scanned photos before to be used for anything. I've just always taken pictures with my camera and uploaded them directly from my cam to the PC. So having physical pictures that I want to "turn into" digital pictures is a new thing for me.

Also, is every photo site and co. now using stronger copyright laws? This really bummed me out last week because I had put together a picture collage of screencaps I took with my digital camera from a movie as her main Christmas present, but the order is "on hold" for copyright verification because they noticed "professional-looking images" or "images belonging to someone else" (at first I was flattered they thought my pictures were too "professional-looking", lol).

I did this same thing last year for two Christmas presents, and no questions were asked at all. But now my order is on hold for 7 days unless I "prove" the images are mine. I was a bit surprised because I just wanted to do this for a meaningful gift and nothing about any profit, but of course I realize the co. doesn't know that---unless I told them so, but I don't know if that would do any good or not (experience here, anyone?). Anyway, it's annoying and so disappointing that apparently I can't do this for her...I know she would have loved it, and I hate that my options are becoming extinct.

Anyway, long story short is I think you're gonna have to go to a do it yourself place and do iron ons or something along those lines. I'll come back and explain more later but I wanted to bump this for you now. Later.

Scanner's can be very inexpensive these days (Consumer Grade),

I haven't used kiosks but is there a slot for a SD card you could use to transfer them from the kiosk, or perhaps a CD Burner?

Good Luck guy named after my subdivision :p

avro, the pictures are just "normal" pictures---about maybe 15-20 photos? No negatives, just the photos---from the '80s. I can't get a scanner, if I use a scanner I'll have to use a library one or a copy center one, although the photo kiosk I saw at Kinko's with the scanner in it doesn't have any e-mail capability (no keyboard).

There are several options on the kiosk, including card things and CD stuff.

But does the kiosk allow you to save to CD or Memory Card?

Do you have a colour inkjet - and does it printer broadsheet size? Although that can get expensive.

If you lived close I just say swing on by :p

Then give a local camera / photography store and ask them the same questions.

If you have enough photos consider purchasing a scanner or “all in one printer/copier/scannerâ€. A digital camera can also work but lighting will be a problem; you can get bright spots or shadows. The photography store may use this second method but they will have the proper lighting.

(Some Kinko's have less helpful people who stand around discussing their lunch breaks while you try to figure things out for yourself. That's customer service in the 21st Century, I guess.)

I have a scanner and printer all in one. Yes I can scan a photo onto my PC. With the printer it's just waste of alot of Ink. Color ink gets pretty expensive for alot of photos. It's Ok if you just want a 5x7 or 8x10 for a few photos. I hope this helps. I'm pretty new to ordering photos online also and I had no problems. I went through Longs Drug Store near my house.
