Phoenix float builders is across the street adjacent to where I park my car to take the Gold Line commuter trains to work every day and sometimes the floats are out on the street for their required inspections. Yesterday, a float was in the street and as I approached, I spotted what looked like some familiar castle spires on it. When I was able to get a better look, I could see that it was Anaheim's float, which, like their past floats, has representations of Anaheim landmarks. The topmost part of Sleeping Beauty Castle is featured on the middle top part of the of the float. With a theme of "Hats off to Entertainment", the upcoming parade is one that Disney or Disneyland should have a float in themselves!

They were on Anaheim's float in 2007 with the Monorails, and they had their own floats in 2006 (castles from the different parks for the 50th) and 2004 (Tower of Terror). I think it would be really cool if they could have more of a regular appearance in the parade. As a company that's known for it's parades, this seems like a natural (so to speak) setting for them. It seems like a relatively inexpensive way to get a lot of advertising (who do you know that doesn't watch the parade on New Year's morning?) across the country to show off what's new at DLR. They definatley have enough interesting shaped attractions that it could make for some really neat floats.

I could see that they might have problems with the performers for the parade since it is so long (6+ miles from where you line up to where you are 'backstage' again, or 2+ hours without a break), but it's usually not too hot. It really wouldn't surprise me if that's a major concern for them bringing the characters out.

I've marched in the parade the past two years, and hopefully I won't have to again this year, as it's nice to do once, but it is a tough thing to do (especially when followed by a football game). All I can say is cheer for Oregon State!

Parade programs usually start showing up in the local Pasadena grocery stores in December, so I'll keep my eye out for them and check to see if Disney has anything.
