I am the math enrichment teacher at my school and when my 900+ students started hearing about it, they wanted to go too. They are in an impoverished area of Phila.,Pa. and of course it would be impossible if not for bringing it TO THEM. We started thinking of THE TRIP in a math sense. We'd play the Disneyland Sing a Long video and guestimate crowds, talk about character costume changes, guest age and likeability factors of rides and much more. Ideas from students ranged from designing new rides, to wondering about changing the speed/drop of Splash Mountain to discussing the architecture of the castles in both American parks and elevations to thinking about how well Lilo and Stitch will do this opening weekend, I was amazed. Students from K-5 really got into the project. Now I am getting ready for our last day this Friday and my trip on July 1st to the WORLD and feel like 900+ smiling faces will be in my suitcase. Take Disney as far as your kids will allow and ROLL WITH IT! Bonnie W.
