Isn't it great that you can chat on Facebook?

It's not just Facebook, though. I believe I.M. is my tech "barrier" into old age (heck I'm almost two feet in the grave already right!?).

I always wondered what it would be. What sort of "device" or "fad" would leave me thinking "that's just STUPID!", (mostly cause I don't "get" it).

Well, I.M. is it. I don't like it. Drives me nuts. I feel as though I'm on the phone, but no voice, AND I have to wait and wait for someone to write back, and then when they do I feel like I have to write again NOW, RIGHT AWAY! And when I step into the other room to get a glass of water I feel like I've done something wrong and need to RUSH back to the computer.

Meh. I.M. is for those youngsters. Who needs it! Bah!

So much easier, and way faster, for an oldster like me that never even took Typing, thinking it was for secretaries! :p

And I suppose there's a way to set it up better, but I assume it's showing me as online all day, since my computer is on, even when Iim out! So people think I'm ignoring them when I'm not even here! (or so I assume - oh the pressure! lol)

LOL. Actually, I took a typing course or two and am quite proficient so I can keep up with the "young-uns" I post with. Still, Mr. X. you describe the feelings that go along with I.M. very well. One point on I.M. etiquette is "let the other poster know when you leaving so they don't sit waiting for a reply that never comes.

    I love chat.

Wow, etiquette for IMing, who knew. They need to come up with the equivalent of the phone answering machine for IMing (I guess that ruins the "Instant" part tho! :). I guess I'm too much of a loner, but I don't feel like always being at everyone's immediate beck and call.

I know there are a lot of people that like it tho. I'm surprised about how many have posted here, that they don't!
