That said, the stuff in the video does look promising. The model of Toy Story Land makes me feel a little better about it. It will still be pretty bad, but it looks like it will be a lot less plastickey than I was expecting.

They also said something about there being 30 new shows and attractions, which will bring the total number near 100 shows and attractions. Last time I checked, there were about 2 dozen attractions with about half a dozen new ones on the way. Are there really going to be 70 things that could be considered "shows"? I'm trying to define attraction as loosely as possible to get the number up, but that statement just didn't make any sense to me.

And is the name of the bear coaster really going to be "Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars"? No doubt that was thought up by the same folks who named "The Walt Disney Story Featuring Great Moments with Mr Lincoln" and "The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail Featuring the Magic of Brother Bear." They just roll off the tongue so well. If only we could come up with a balance between those names and ones like Toy Story Land and Cars Land, then maybe we could finally get one that doesn't sound too utterly rediculous.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this. They must be counting every last thing in the park, including all of the streetmosphere stuff individually. I wonder if the 100 count still includes City Hall?

There was one thing that I found very troubling about the Toy Story stuff: "It's filled with our favorite toys from childhood." Looking at the trademark references at the very end, we see the likes of:

Hot Wheels, Scrabble, Slinky Dog, Barrel of Monkeys, Tinkertoy, and Lincoln Logs. There also were the Green Army Men.

These may have been the childhood toys of those from a certain region (North America) and of a certain age or older (say, the age of John Lasseter). But since one of the big problems with HKDL so far is that it doesn't resonate with the Chinese audience, will a Toy Story land with these "toys of our childhood" mean anything to them? Will there be any nostalgia? Or, will it look like one big reference to the Pixar film?

Never had a Slinky Dog though.

    Did have a slinky.

Lincoln Logs were one of my all time favorite toys (yes, over Legos!), and I'm pretty sure they're a major reason I'm an engineer these days. Most of the references in Toy Story worked for me (the film on the whole is a different matter, for a different thread), but I would be surprised if it worked the same way for the Chinese public.

Come to think of it though, they might have been a Christmas or birthday gift from her fam in America. Her Japanese friends are often surprised and jealous of her "unusual" toys. ;)
