I wonder if D23 will do something with this. Maybe have an event in California and Florida where all members can come to a Habitat for Hummanity house building project and help out then have a party afterward with snacks and a Disney movie, something along those lines

Sure, people SHOULD volunteer and get rewards, but too many of us don't. This is a great way to get people's feet in the door.

Getting free admission is just a bonus. If you already have an AP, can't you donate your entry ticket to someone?

I understand ursula's point that this might lead some to learn that volunteering should always include some type of reward. However, I believe the GOOD that WILL be done from this promotion will far outweigh any negatives that MIGHT occur.

I don't think the idea of giving someone something at the end of their volunteer experience is a bad idea. It makes a positive association with volunteering and if this gets new people to try out volunteering, then it's a good thing.

Disney hopes to hand out 1 million rewards, that's 1 million chances to put the seed of making a difference in the mind of someone new who might flower into the next MLK, JR or Ceasar Chavez.

I agree that it would be nice if people volunteered just for the good feeling you get from it, but I understand that sometimes you have to "incent" people. (Personally, a "free" t-shirt or a "free" lunch will usually hook me.)

They should just plant the trees, or not plant the trees. Don't make it into a "if you buy this ticket, we'll plant a tree."

Companies donate a million bucks, and then spend 30 million bucks telling people that they donated a million bucks. That's upside down to me.

In Florida kids are encouraged to volunteer throughout high school and, in return, they are eligible for bright futures scholarships. I donate money to charity every year and get the benefit of a tax write off. There isn't anything wrong with that.
