Last night - as mum and I were packing for today's trip to Melbourne - my sister called to say they had called an ambulance, he was getting worse. Their boys were anxious and asking if daddy would be coming home again. When he got to the hospital they finally did the test they should have done two days ago and at about 11.00 last night discovered it was, in fact, viral meningitis. He's staying in the hospital for a few nights then coming home for 2-3 weeks of bedrest. My sister's pregnant - so even if she doesn't catch meningitis (it's the less infectious of the two types, but you can still catch it in close contact) I'm worried that the stress of having to look after two boys under 6 as well as my BIL won't be healthy for her or the baby. And, of course, we had to call off the Melbourne trip which sounds like a really minor point in comparison, and it is, but since this was to make up for the Hong Kong trip we're no longer taking and I've been looking forward to it and saving for it for weeks, it's still REALLY disappointing. Any positive thoughts would be appreciated We're all pretty down at the moment.

But try to cheer up, and maybe an even better trip will be in store for the future!

We were due to go in early March, but then mum got diagnosed with high blood pressure and she couldn't get travel insurance. We might be going at some point, but not the trip we were planning on taking.

If I remember correctly my son had to have shots for meningitis before they would let him formally enroll in college and live in the dorm. Do they have immunizations for the kids? Probably not good for a pregnant person.
