It's going to be like watching it ... as if it was September 1966. Even though I was only 2 at the time . Anybody else enthusiastic about all these changes? Here in SoCal ... it will be on NBC4 ... starting Saturday night Sept 16. And will air one new (old) episode once a week. I'm excited ... but I'll leave the major statements to tvguide.com ... and startrek.com ! Can't wait!

So is the network actually airing these during the programming schedule, or will these be shown before/after regular programming like local news or syndicated shows? Isn't TVLand doing something similar with the Star Trek shows as well?

State-of-the-art visual effects will replace those in the series (created in-house by CBS), new music will be added to the soundtrack, and the show will be offered in high definition. Presumably, the new series will also be packaged for sale on high-definition DVD after the syndication package airs.<<

Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy will be syndicated in HD starting this season (this week, in fact, if I'm not mistaken) for those stations that want it. Some stations may not have the ability to play back HD locally, so YMMV.

Worth noting: Some of the Rankin-Bass Christmas specials aired in 4:3 HD last December on CBS, and the world didn't end. And at least four of the LA stations deliberately distort the picture on upconverted 4:3 SD material to make the side bars smaller (sidenote--I HATE this). Obviously the jury's still out on how stations are going to deal with all this. Also worth noting, I recall seeing a recent article that reported that something like 60% of HDTV owners don't have an HD source to feed their TV. And most don't know the difference. Oh yeah -- Wheel and Jeopardy. Widescreen HD. Last night on KABC.
