Making a list of must rides, if you have time rides, and then the least important rides or a ride(s) you would like to do twice! Also, if you don't own one. I recommend the Unofficial Guide to Disneyland. It has different plans for touring depending on your preferences. The tours are very detailed and although seem a little random at first allow you to get a lot done! Even if you feel like you already know the park pretty well. Trust me I used them on a pack Saturday in July and we got sooo much done! I also wouldn't stress and think we HAVE to get everything done! Just enjoy your day!

(although you said "about 15 years"): well: All of Toontown, and the Roger Rabbit Ride opened in 1993, Indy opened in '95, Innoventions and HISTA in '98(at least the West coast versions), "Buzz Lightyear" in '05, Pooh in '03, plus the new versions of Pirates, TSI, the additions to Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain with the on-board audio, Jungle Cruise with the additions, and of course, you can be among the first to ride the Nemo Subs. Also, I know you only have one day, but there IS a whole second gate that opened to the South. With one day, a one day hopper would be good. I would try to get on "Soarin'", TOT, and "Monsters Inc.". You might be able to do those in a couple of hours.
