Half a dozen eggs for me is about $.99, a quart of milk (slightly more than a litre) is about $1.99, a sliced loaf of white bread is about $.75 and two rolls of toilet paper, well, we buy at CostCo, so I'll just figure $1.50 per roll if buying by the roll. Sooooooo, total that up and you see that we pay about $6.73 for that list, or about $3.5 pounds.

Figuring 3.78 litres per gallon of gas, your article says we in the US pay about $.311 (or 1 pound 63) for a gallon of gas. IOn actuality, I paid $2.08 a gallon this morning - equivalent to 1.09 pounds. for an entire gallon, whereas at UK prices, we'd pay 3.4 pounds a gallon - ouch!

And a cup of coffee costing $4.30? Not even Starbucks costs that much, I think, unless you get one of their special foo foo drinks.

Soo, IOW, don't trust that magazine, girl! :)

A dozen eggs is 1.89 (large i'm assuming right?) milk is about 3.97- 4.27ish for 3.78 litres, or 3 bags of milk, how big is the roll of TP and what is the ply count? I can get cheap single ply or go for the double roll triple ply...

Gas however is about 80c a litre right now :(

Coffee in Beverly Hills or New York perhaps

I pay 2 bucks for an extra large cap, a bit less then that for normal coffee.

Those prices in pounds are much higher then what we actually pay here, considering we would have to times that pound amount by three to get the AUD dollar amount and that's way over what we pay for those items!

    Sorry!

it showed what kind of accomodation could be bought for £200,000 too, it was a one bedroom flat in a city centre here. Its about what our TINY house is worth, it has three bedrooms, a TINY bathroom, lounge, kitchen and we added a dining room. We paid £27,000 for it 19 years ago. Silly, silly, silly, no idea what new buyers are meant to buy now.
