I know we all get older and turn into our own parents because I see it happening to me. I don't have the patience for nuisances and irritations like I used to. Firecrackers are not fun, okay? There's nothing entertaining about them other than being deliberately annoying to your neighbors. The best I can hope for now is that someone loses a thumb.

I hope you got some sleep.

Anyway, I'm still pulling kitties out from under beds this morning.

However, every Fourth we sit in our backyard or the upstairs windows and enjoy the displays around the neighborhood. We stay home from the official displays because of our dog. I understand the fire dangers and reasons for the ban, and wholeheartedly support the law. However, that doesn't keep me from enjoying those you go around it. It's their necks!

Needless to say that last night there were numerous fires in the dune grass. The main road leading to my street was blocked off due to the fire and it's potential spread. So we had to take an alternative route home. Thankfully that fire was taken care of before any more damage could occur. However, from what we heard another fire suppposedly destroyed a car and may have destroyed a home as well. All thanks to people setting off heir fireworks into the dunes. Can you tell I'm ticked? I mean it's people like this who will have fireworks banned here in the next few years.

My poor dog was so upset last night, too. She was fine until I took her out to the backyard before bed, and someone let off a firecracker close to the house. She's already jumpy with storms because of some lightning that crashed close to us earlier this year, and this has just made things worse. She walked between my legs back into the house, and then she got as close as she could to me when we went to bed. She was just shaking, poor baby. :-( I don't mind firecrackers in their place, but it does bother me when they're set of illegally. We have a city-wide ban on them, too, but they always set the dang things off. And it's not like there aren't places people could go to see fireworks. We have two fireworks shows in town, one sponsored by the city last weekend and one held by the largest church in the area last night. Sadly, there's nothing you can do to stop people. :-/

I may very well call 311 (Metro PD's non-emergency number) if it keeps up past 10 tonight. Aside from being annoying, firecrackers are illegal. Those brats deserve a little harrassment - a fine to hit their wallets would be good, too.
