Disney seems to be moving more and more to the route of increasing prices by including more things, whether you want them or not. I've never had a Monte Cristo, but I'm thinking that someone who wants it for lunch isn't necessarily going to want a soup or salad and sides with it. OK, lots of food - order one and share. Then they ding you with the $4.99 split plate charge. They did the inclusion thing a while back at French Market, where entrees come with a side salad. Not really a problem for me since I used to order a side salad anyway, but for someone who doesn't want a salad, they're paying for something they don't want.

We're probably going in July for lunch - at least I know I'll have leftovers to take with me.

I don't really like being forced into a set tip, I prefer to reward those who offer service beyond expecations more then those who barely provide any service.

And I always get a bit put off by seeing those silver covers on the plates -- it should remind me of room service at some swanky hotel, but it usually makes me feel like I'm at a local Rotary Club luncheon.

And $19.00 for a Monte Cristo sandwich? It is good, but wow....

I feel like when prices start getting that high, that's when guests start expecting more and more.

It's the difference between a $19.95 admission charge into the Parks, and $50.00.

    Anyway, I digress...

So, basically we pay $7 or $8 for Mickey chicken nuggets or pasta, which they didn't like either. That was NOT butter they put on it.

How does everyone feel about us taking food for the kids to eat while we eat there?

As long as you're not cooking mac 'n cheese on a hot plate next to your table, you should be okay.

What would you be bringing for said kids?

I don't think of it as smuggling, as the people who check the backpack we carry in know we have food, and there doesn't seem to be a problem with it. We always bring snacks to the park. And water bottles.

Typically a that charge gives each person a plate with the side dishes and half of the entree. So, it's worth $4.99.

As far as bringing in your own food, personally I think it's tacky. It's equivilant to bringing it along to an upscale restaurant anywhere. If it's purchased elsewhere at the park, I think it's a little different than whipping it out of your backpack in baggies. That's more appropriate for casual dining locations, not a table service restaurant.

Just my personal opinion. My feet are already toasty from the roasting I'll probably get for it, LOL

We should be able to visit Blue Bayou without having to have a babysitter on vacation with us.
I wouldn't mind paying the $8.00 if my kids liked the food, and they really aren't super picky kids. The pasta my daughter had with butter was nasty, I wouldn't eat it. And I guarantee you it wasn't butter on it, otherwise she would have eaten it. And why not serve fries with kids lunches at least. I wouldn't take food to a fancy restaurant, but it is a theme park, and I think the "rules" are completely different in that situation.

But it is a personal decision and I'm not roasting you at all :)

If the food wasn't good, then that's not a matter of it being inappropriate kids' food. Whether the food is for adults or kids, the food should be decent quality, and if it's not up to par, then the server should definitely be alerted. While I do think it was very nice of the server to bring a substitute without charging, that's the kind of service I'd expect at any decent restaurant up being told the food is subpar.

As far as the fries, I don't think having mashed potatoes as a side is unreasonable. It's just incompatible if your kids don't like it. Did you ask if they could substitute?

I'm wondering if the split plate charge applies if it's an adult and child or just two adults.
