When the camera is on and connected I get a "Unknown device" popup where I usually get a download popup. Ive installed a driver for the camera but either its not working or helping. (Ive never needed a driver before)

I replaced the USB cord but its not the issue and now Im at a loss of what to do now-

    Any ideas?

You can also go to the Canon site and download the latest driver.
Another thing to try, I'm not sure how you view your photos, but did you try opening Windows Explorer to see if your pics show up without the device being "recognized".

Oh yeah, have you restarted? You'd be surprised how many issues can be solved that way.

If all else fails, as suggested. Just get a card reader. Heck if you have an iPod get the all in one unit. Works great.
