Since I want to mostly go for WOC, would WOC be open in Jan, middle like 13-17? Could you guess, for that matter, is Fantasmic usually open in Jan? Any help would be appriciated

P.S. for that matter, which would you do?
1st trip to DLR or 2nd Disney Cruise but first on Disney Dream

Then again, since WOC will still be new, and people will probably be clamoring to see it for quite some time, they may have it running nightly for quite awhile.

Yes, during the off-season Fantasmic still plays twice nightly from Friday to Sunday, as well as major holidays.

The only reason it isn't showing now is because the Rivers of America is undergoing a huge refurb.

Different circumstances. DCA was on the rocks after being so poorly received, and Disney cut a lot of things. Now the park is on the upswing, and people are definitely looking forward to this show.

Was Fantasmic showing nightly the first year or two, anyone? That might be a good indication of how the World of Color may perform. Generally, january is the prime off season and If Fantasmic OR WOC were to go down because of lack of crowd/maintanence, January would be it.

That said, my best guess would be World of Color at minimum showing year round ATLEAST on Friday-Sat-Sun.

Plus when you think about it, the financial cost per-showing of WOC will be dismal in comparison to pricey Fireworks and a cast of actors/stunt people.

Meanwhile WoC is a dancing waters show which uses water and some fire effects.

A far less rigmarole than Fantasmic.

It would seem more easy to run WoC all the time .. vs. Fantasmic.

Since most people want to see the first show, they do that, watch the fireworks from the river, and then go home. That leaves a much smaller crowd that wants to see the later show. You should still probably try to get there 20-30 minutes before it starts (depending on how busy the park is that day), but the wait really isn't too bad. A lot of the time, you can show up fairly late and even get a spot where you can sit on the ground, since standing at the end of the day is not so fun.
