Have any of you been down this road? Do you have any consolation or any tips to help me out? I've never been so scared before. If you could spare any good thoughts for my job hunt that starts in the morning (well, I guess it is the morning. . .), I would greatly appreciate it. I've already made my resume and applied for one job, and I do have my 401k coming to help tide me over, but it's still tremendously worrying.

If I were you I'd get in touch with your old company and find out what their policy is regarding references. Many companies have a policy of non-disclosure, and if they are contacted they'll confirm only that you worked from X to Y dates and offer no information on performance or the circumstances of your departure.

    Good luck!

You'll want to avoid saying stuff like this (or even posting it online). ;)

We all know it isn't always someone else's actions that lead to our problem.

If what happens can be explained in such a way that your prospective company can see that it might not be a problem for them, then it won't carry much weight.

I'm not suggesting she lie. Just not be quite so direct.

You can say you got let go without completely crucifying yourself in the process.

As Lady Starlight says, have faith! I would add "Dont give up hope!". In yourself, your abilities and the fact that you know yourself to be everything plus more for the next employer.

I have a situation with my employer that may lead to something along your lines in the not too distant future. I actually have a game plan which begins with an all day visit the next day to Disneyland, and on from there.

I will keep you in my positive thoughts!

I was fired once many years ago. It's not a good feeling. It can make you feel like a total failure--even though you're not. So, it's important to remind yourself of all the things you have accomplished in life, set goals for your future, and move foward.
Like LS said, things happen for a reason and you need to think positive. Things WILL get better.

    My advice: don't despair.

I got fired from a job and it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. I'm not saying that will be the case for you (and maybe you're already sick of hearing that) but it's very possible. I know people who still work where I did eight years ago and they're miserable.

My advice is also to just be honest about it. I told my next two employers what happened, and they hired me anyways. Obviously that can depend on what happened, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Take a day or two to relax, then start looking for something new next week.
