According to the Continental website (little X's account), miles never expire. HOWEVER, right under that it says that if there are no "deposits" into your account for 18 months your account MAY be closed and you MAY lose your miles.

    Which the heck is it!?

I'm concerned because the last time she had any activity on the account was 18 months ago today, and I'm wondering if I should buy miles or something.

    HELP!?

The reason for the distinction is that some programs have a policy where miles expire regardless of activity. That is, you could fly every day and still have miles that were earned 3 years ago expire. Continental miles will "never expire" as long as you keep the account active by having activity at least every 18 months.

However, Continental currently isn't closing accounts due to inactivity and have reportedly never done this, but they could start doing so at any time without additional notice since it is in the program rules.

But there's no need to buy miles in order to keep the account current. Any activity on the account will reset the 18-month timer. The easiest way is to make 100-mile donation to charity. They have several participating charities, with one of them being the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Just log into your Continental account and make the donation online. There's no service fee, you'll reset the 18-month activity window, and do your good deed for the day.
