We're looking to stay at a hotel in that area, and I wanted to see if that would be a good idea. We're going to the Richard Rodgers Theatre, so staying in that area would be convenient, but if it's not a great area, then we'll look to stay elsewhere and just take the subway in. Thanks. /cs

Longtime New Yorkers like to kvetch nostalgic about the glory days of the old peep-show-and-porn-shop Times Square that this cleaned-up Disney-fied version supplanted. And there really is not much here to offer the native New Yorker. The revival, however, has been nothing short of an outstanding success for tourism. Grand old theaters have come back to life as Broadway and children's playhouses, and scores of new family-friendly restaurants and shops have opened. Plenty of businesses have moved in – MTV studios overlook Times Square at 1515 Broadway and Good Morning America has its own street-facing studio at Broadway and 44th Street. The neon lights have never been brighter, and Middle America has never been more welcome. Expect dense crowds though; it's often tough just to make your way along the sidewalk.>> It sounds pretty good to me. Sorry I can’t post a link… I typed it from my copy of the guide. Apologies to you and Frommer’s for any typos I made.

I can't say from personal experience since the last time I was in NYC was 40 years ago. I'm planning a trip there in the near future which is why I bought the Frommer's.

I've bookmarked a page too. Thanks! It looks like it's a decent part of town and there are a lot of known hotels in that area too. I looked up some other information, and both Mamma Mia and The Lion King are playing in nearby theatres as well. We could be in big trouble... Thanks for all the help. /cs

Do those things actually have good tickets to big shows? The only time I've done that is in Las Vegas, and the pickings weren't slim, they were none. I guess it's a matter of how much we want to see a particular show. If we want to make sure to be able to go, then we should get tickets ahead of time. If we're not tied to it, I guess we can wait, though I think it would tie up too much of the day if we had to figure out whether or not we were getting theatre tickets that night. I've already ordered our tickets for Tarzan, obviously. And as good as it sounds, I'm not sure going to a show every night is a good thing, especially for our budget! /cs
