I was in Anaheim on business Monday and I was suprised to see how much above-ground contruction has already been completed on this project. I really hope that this thing has some notable architecture - something that is sorely lacking in the rather architecturally bland Anaheim Resort District.

    It's disgusting.

I did. The problem with concept drawings is that the final project doesn't match up to the illustrations. That is, the final project could end up looking worse (or better) than the drawings. I guess what I am saying is that it's all in the details, which are hard to see from the online concept art.

"I'm excited to have some nice places to eat so near Disneyland."

    Me too!

"To make matters worst most of the 1940's-60's look is being destroyed by stucco and red tile roof redos."

I noticed that the other day. It's as if all the new developments have some sort of contract with one another to build everything in a (cheap) psuedo-southwestern flavor. The Anaheim Resort District's lush landscaping is beautiful, but it's unfortunate that the City has done nothing to encourage the developers to create better architecture.

The one thing that Garden Walk has going for it, though, is the combination of hotels and residential with retail and restaurants. I also like how it's pedestrian traffic is directly connected to the surrounding streets rather that being hemmed in by acres of parking like The Grove.

I see no reason to go to this place, actually. It sounds like it will be a mall.

But nothingness? If it isn't something for me to bother with, then there is no difference to me if there is a mall there, or a vacant field. I'm not traveling 500 miles to go to a Orange Julius, or whatever they have there.

Besides Disney, there just isn't much to do. The place just feels dated and lifeless. As one of my associates said, "It's as if Anaheim made it to the 80's and just stopped there".

Anyway, its a little more competition and gives people an option of doing somethng else other than DTD, then go for it. I mean, just a mere few years ago, you had McDonalds, Denny's and IHOP as the main eateries around the park not counting DL Hotel stuff (STILL miss the Monerail Cafe :() and had to drive to out of the way unless you didn't mind overpriced hotel food, but NOW look!!

Really, this is a GOOD thing ;).

When we go down there, we go down, and eat at DTD. Or we go to Tommys in Fountain Valley. Or we eat down in Newport someplace. I just don't even think of going close to off property from Disney to do anything at all.
