In the refurb that it just finished a couple weeks ago, they removed it.

Many of the random rocks and stuff around Frontierland (like the ones next to the petting zoo area) are left over from the Mine Train. I believe that some of the props in the queue for Big Thunder are also reworked pieces of the old tracks and trains. The little village on the hill was originally built as a loading area for the Mine Train as well. Even though it's been gone for over 30 years, there are still tons of things around from when it was operating.

Is this across from BTMR? Does anyone know where they might be any pictures?

I watched all the footage from the day when DL opened the other day. Wow Frontierland was unrecognizable. It really did have a really western-cowboy feel to it. It's really amazing how things have changed so drastic from the original Frontierland.

Frontierland has changed and lost its appeal for me. It has become a walk way more than a destination for the most part.

It took up fully a third of DL in those days. (When they carved out NOS and Bear Country from pieces of FrL, TL became the largest land.)

But you have to remember how big western mythology was in the 50's; I think something like a third of all prime time shows in the late 50's were westerns (!). The myth of the old west, while it's still somewhere lurking in our zeitgeist, isn't nearly as strong today, which no doubt has something to do with FrL's decline in attention from both Disney and parkgoers.

I still enjoy taking a trip on the river (especially on the Columbia) and I'm curious to see the changes they've installed (though why they added only static new figures rather than simple AA's is beyond me). And I enjoy BTMRR, especially after dark, and LOVE the Billies.

But FrL is long overdue for a new E ticket, presumably in the BT Ranch area, as has long been rumored.

Davy Crockett vs. Woody: The Ultimate Showdown

Climb aboard your trusty steed and choose your side! Will you don your coonskin cap and aim ol' besty square in the computer animated cowboy's forehead? Or will you and Bullseye make Davy and friends "reach for the sky?"

This highly interactive attraction will have you racing through the old west and Andy's room simultaneously. Challenge your friends to see who has the better shot! Will you take down the Toy Story gang on huge 3-D animated screens? Or will you have the audio-animatronic Davy Crockett on the run? It's old fronteirland vs. new frontierland in a rootin' tootin' adventure!

Something original with no movie/toon tie-in.

    Ya .. I know....

    Like that's gonna happen.

    * The 1976 concept for DISCOVERY BAY that would have included not just one or two, but several attractions:
    1. E Ticket - ISLAND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD
    2. E Ticket - VOYAGE THRU TIME
    3. Spark Cap Electric Loop Coaster
    4. Gallery of Illusions
    5. Fireworks Factory Shooting Gallery

    * The GEYSER MOUNTAIN concept that would have opened 2002/03 .... but poor little DCA was in dire need of a new ride, so the similar ToT was built instead.

    * WESTERN RIVER EXPEDITION
Though never intended for Disneyland, another "PotC" type ride would be a shear welcome for many Disneyland fans.

    * A mini "WOODY AND JESSY LAND"
I remember reading somewhere this idea would have contained a "D ticket" and a couple small "B-C ticket" ideas. But I REALLY hope that concept never takes off! The beauty of Frontierland is that it offers the realistic and romanticized visions of the real western frontier of our country .. of over a 130-150 years ago. Not a "kiddy toonville" that the park has been veering towards for the last 10 or so years.

The best vision for Frontierland .. as they have more acreage to work with than some people realize ... is an expansion that entails the sort of attractionS layout of Discoveryland.

The key point is Capacity. They are not doing themselves any favors .. if they are not using every square inch of land to the most maximized potential.

If Discovery Bay was going to contained TWO E Ticket size attractions ... with THREE minor sized B-D ticket ... then those no reason future developments could contain the same.

They got the section where Cascade Peek was.
They got the area of the Festival of Fools arena.
They got backstage areas .. where they could re-arrange some backstage infrastructure.

Duh - I meant Discovery Bay.

But it's funny how some elements of Discovery Bay ended up in Discoveryland - DLP.
