I think it pretty much has to do with what you are looking for in your specific vacation. Since you've recently stayed at GCH, I'd suggest trying the DLH (ask for a room with a DTD or a pool view and a sofa bed) and then you get to have the fun of deciding for yourself

If you can't do with anything less than GCH in quality, then, yes, pay a bunch and stay there. But, DLH is a nice hotel and it feels much more Disney to me and the value is definitely there for the money (compared with other Disney hotels).

It allows you to go back and forth from the parks to the hotel quickly. And I love being right over DTD. You feel like you are always apart of the action as well as having a great view of the fireworks. My sister and I are both older tho so I would agree that if you have young kids they would probably much more appreciate the DH. But my parents think since they are spoiling us and taking us to Disneyland then they should get spoiled in the hotel...

I have to say tho that it doesn't feel like a Disney trip unless we stay at DLH--must be left over from my childhood and honeymoon!

Very "resorty" with all the palm trees, waterfallls, pools, etc. And in my opinion, it has the grooviest vibe. We have stayed at the DLH about 7 or 8 times, and have always gotten a DTD view room in the Sierra Tower. Our rooms have always been very spacious with two queen beds and a day bed. And the view is like being at the gateway of Disneyland. Whichever you choose, you won't go wrong! Have a great trip!
