So if by more advanced you mean better and more articulated ride animatronics, and also hopefully a little more consistent ride theme (taxis that fly through 4th story windows???), then my understanding of the advanced publicity surrounding the ride is that is will be more advanced. There, does that make everyone less worked up over my first comment? lol. - Anatole

Guests hold flashlights which they use to "tag" the monsters when the power is switched off in Monstropolis by Mike. The attraction uses both black- and white-light scenes and guests point their flashlights at objects to see if there are monsters hidden behind them. So in one scene the monsters are hidden in lockers and as you shine your flashlight on each locker either a monster will appear or not. The monsters are fully-dimensional AAs. I can't remember the exact count but it is something like 80. The sets are also gigantic - the main street in Monstropolis is reproduced in the main vault of the building and the sets are three stories high (ie. taller than DL's Main Street). It is a tremendously infectious and enjoyable attraction. You don't have to play along to enjoy it either - you can just sit back and enjoy the scenes and watching others feverishly trying to find monsters. As Malin said we had a full interview with the show producer in Issue 10 - it also had set models and the mock-up of the locker room scene that was used to get OLC to sign-off on the concept.

What we have here is the most blatant ride ripoff I have ever heard about. This Monsters Inc. attraction is, essentially, Universal's Men in Black Alien Attack; but I'm still very much eagerly anticipating its opening.

I've not experienced Men in Black but the fact that they are both interactive and feature aliens is hardly enough to justify your "blatant ripoff" claim. Monsters, Inc. is firmly rooted as an extension of the movie. It is a fully realized version of Monstropolis with some recognizable characters and some new fellas like Rocky that have been created in partnership with Pixar. If MIB is replicating the movie then it is tied to New York City of today - the movie didn't have any fantasy element to the setting. Monsters, Inc. is entirely fantastical.

Here's a novel idea: why not wait until the ride opens and we've had a chance to ride both before claiming that TDL's Monster's Inc is a "blatant ripoff."

This is good to hear. Unfortunately sitting back and watching isn't enjoyable on Buzz Lightyear or Toy Story Mania.

And while I admit some parts sound very similar to MIB, I think it will be differnt enough here. Take for instance the ride system on MIB is a lot more advanced to what the Monsters system sounds like it will be. *** I've not experienced Men in Black but the fact that they are both interactive and feature aliens is hardly enough to justify your "blatant ripoff" claim. *** Lee I highly recomend next time your out in Orlando, if you have some time free from work to head down to Universal and check it out. Its a fantastic attraction and I rate it high.

Just Buzz on Steroids, imho (and funny someone should bitch about the TDL ride being a "blatant copy" when the Universal Ride was a shameless copy of a Disney idea in the first place lol). MiB is okay, I thought. Nothing fantastic. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of this interactive crap, so I'm sure that colors my take on this particular fad. I hope it goes away soon in favor of REAL rides.
