Yeah, the costuming is a bit tired when viewed in 2010, but the music still resonates with me, and as many people know, music is my lifeblood. It makes my world go 'round, so a movie musical is what MUST be my favorite film. It just makes me feel good.

My favorite movie of all time has got to be Steel Magnolias. It's funny, it's sad, it makes you want to be Southern & make bleedin' armadillo grooms cakes for a living...I've seen it so many times I could probably quote the entire movie from beginning to end.
I appreciate the movie a lot more now too that I have friends like the ones in the movie. No matter how far apart we live or whatever happens in our lives, we are ALWAYS there for each other.

Great choice with Steel Magnolias Lady Kluck. That one is definitely in my top five. I know that one by heart too. My favorite line is "He's so confused he don't know whether to scratch his watch or wind his butt." Cracks me up every time.

The editing and camera work, and that classic dun-DUN-dun-DUN music is awesome. Robert Shaw's monologue about surviving the sinking of the USS Indianapolis was Oscar-worthy on its own. Roy Scheider provides the perfect mix of land-lubber up against the old sea dog Quint. And Richard Dreyfuss is at his smart-alec best throughout. Murray Hamilton, who played the mayor of Amity ("You know, Amity means 'friendship'") is wonderfully spineless and manipulative. I can't imagine anyone else playing that part so perfectly.

    Topper
    Penny Serenade

I can't pick between the two. PS is heart-wrenching. When the little girl and her mother shows up at the newspaper office and she's wearing tennis shoes, I just bawl like a baby.

For Topper, it is the quips that make it for me. Great cinematography and trickery for the times, and I want that car. And they drink Pink Ladies! No one knows how to make a Pink Lady now.

Jaws. Perfect choice. That movie is just so well done all the way around. Story-telling is really showcased.

Goodfellas. You know, I have to agree with you, too. I'm just not into the violence, although when you talk about needing it to tell the story, it works here.

Steel Magnolias- Ladies, why do you think menfolk don't see this for what it is? They few men I know who has seen this just say it is so slow, but I don't agree with them. Maybe it truly is THE chick flick but it really touches me.

Xanadu-There are some serious plot holes going on with that one.

It's definitely one of the all-time chick flicks, but I thought it was really good. There are some great lines in the movie, and Dolly Parton is great. Tom Skerritt and his attempts to chase off the birds in the trees is funny stuff.

An American Werewolf in London is another great horror film. It's scary, very funny and still holds up years later. An underrated horror classic, IMHO.

Kramer vs. Kramer is another of my favorites. I don't know how that little kid didn't go on to be a major star -- an amazing performance. Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep are no slouches, either. ; )
