And surprisingly, I really didn't hate the wand all together. It was very fitting with the 2000 sign, and it really made the millenium celebration something big and special. The numbers were also huge, and stretched almost half way across the sphere and reached as high as the 'pixie dust' that goes horizontally out from the star. The Epcot lettering, however, was too small for the size of the structure holding it up, and just made the whole thing look horribly out of balance. (I never really thought the 2000 threw the balance off that much, since it went pretty far over the top, instead of just to the side) Also, there was no reason for it to say Epcot, and the lettering looked like something that I could do in Word. The 2000 looked really neat, like it was done with a ribbon in the wind, and it was also a consistant height, making it much more difficult to see the back of the other side of the sign. The wand was great for its initial purpose, but it simply overstayed its welcome, slowly but surely ensuring that I would grow to be pretty sick of it.

Also, I noticed a Studio Tram from the tour sitting off in the distance. I guess it's no longer used anymore, either.

That said, Disney does have a "landfill" on property. If you drove past the Grand Floridian that road leads around to the back of the Magic Kingdom. The landfill entrance is down that way on the left. You can't really see anything from the road.

Even if they wanted to put parts into pins, they could use a tiny section (like the one the guy was trying to pick up, or just the sparkles or or something like that) and still have enough for thousands of pins. With the size of the structure, there is no reason that they would keep all that steel just hanging around, especially when people will pay good money to get it from them.

    Yeah, who WAS that guy?!

I could just hear him doing voiceovers during early-evening station identification: "Fresh how -- how it can KILL you! What you need to know to protect yourself from this deadly danger. Tonight at 11."

Interesting video, though. Thanks for sharing, Dug!

Well... it does help when the dumping site in question is right there in plain view of EPCOT Center guests parking in the very last (and least used) section of EPCOT's parking lot, and CMs can drive past it on the way from the EPCOT guest parking lot to the
backstage CM parking lot. Everytime I park at EPCOT, I do so at the AAA diamond section and what's left of the wand, can be seen sitting there next to the parking lot, quite in full view of cars going into the lot that way.

Re-read above statement on that. "Show" be darned at WDW.

It looks like it's been organized into piles that can be picked up by people who reclaim that stuff - Steel, junk resellers, and those MouseSurplus people.

They do that every year..year after year... till the cows come home, or Disney wakes up from his Michael Jackson-endorsed sleeping chamber.
