My guess would be that they are going to reuse a lot of the mechanics that make Rex move, while giving him a new outer layer to create a new character. I'm not sure if there would be enough room in the cabin/screen area to fit C3PO, but R2D2 already kind of acts as a co-pilot. We see him loaded into the outside of the vehicle on the way through the queue, and he is shown on the side screen several times during the ride, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he stayed in a similar role through the new version.
