I have one quick question regarding the flag ceremony. I noticed the children being presented the flag did not look too happy, are they children of soldiers or what? I have never seen them present the flag to someone before so we were wondering about that. It would be sad to think their father was killed in the war. Thanks!

We were wondering the same thing, and I'm not sure. I know that in the past, they've sometimes presented the flag to a veteran or someone like that, but I'd not seen them present it to children before. I think we assumed it was something like that because it didn't make sense to just present the flag to random kids pulled out of the park. After the flag retreat, a couple adults came to stand with the kids to take more pictures, and there was no adult male in the group, for what that's worth.

There didn't seem to be any way to ask, so maybe I'll try to ask at City Hall on Sunday if I remember.
