Just two notes of what I know about what has been proposed/planned: there will be 'considerable' in cabin effects, including some truly kewl stuff, and Star Tours 2.0 will absolutely NOT be themed to the podracing idea proposed 8-9 years ago. The new version will be themed to the entire six-movie series. I know ... not much. But something. And when I hear more and am allowed to post more, I will!

But now Philharmagic and the coming Toy Story ride - and now Star Tours ? With all the rest of the good stuff that appears to be coming to this ride - do we really need 3D also ? Luckily they didn't put more money into the HM rehab or we'd have the darn glasses on in there also...

The first thing they need to make sure they do is make sure it is a good attraction without the 3D, then use it. There are too many good attractions and films that have been ruined by cheap 3D tricks. (Did somebody say cheap 3D tricks?) The 3D should be like Meet the Robinsons that is good to begin with, and it is simply another layer to make it better, not just the only thing it relies on. Another thing I'm concerned about is how much CGI they use. The original film had very little (lightspeed, possibly the comet?) and has lasted quite a while without looking too bad. CGI tends to age really quickly. Look at the imagery in Finding Nemo (which was incredible when it came out) and compare it to Ratatouie for example. Nemo isn't that old, but is already looking pretty dated. It would be too easy to do a ton of upgrades that would just go to waste in a couple years when the film looks out of date, so I hope they're careful with what they do.

This is not a new wrinkle. But you're thinking of it wrong - not for cheap 3D tricks, as it were, but for the illusion of depth necessary for 40-odd people in a huge "spacebus". With the current version, you're looking toward a single screen with a very flat pane of dimensionality. 3D technology will certainly be employed for a few tricks, but it's going to make the journey so compelling and convincing - this does stand to be suddenly one of the all-time great rides when it debuts. It was necessary for a "Travel" sort of attraction. Imagine SOARIN' with that extra bit of dimensional follow-through in presentation. It would be beyond breathtaking.

The storyline of the current ride is so well thought out and as much as I want a Star Tours 2...im just scared its gonna be ill concieved like mission space, stitch's great escape, and garbage like that. I want a true e-ticket Star Wars experince that is smartly written and is well thought out.

Kinda depends on your outlook, doesn't it? Reading BlueOhana's sounds pretty exciting to me.

I AM worried that it will become like HISTA, and the 3-D will become the focus. That idea was great when 3-D was still a novelty, but it's a little dated now. How many in-cabin effects can they do? If a spaceship blows up, it's not like we should get hit by shrapnel INSIDE the cabin. I hope they think about that kind of thing. Another concern is this ride's proximity to Muppet Vision. It just seems a little redundant to have two 3-D attractions about 100 paces from each other.

My guess is that the 3D will be used in the same way that the Disney Digital 3D films are, to enhance the story, but not use 3D as a gimmick. Especially if the top of the cabin opens to space, that will require real depth of field to be believable. It will make the Space Shuttle simulator at the Kennedy Center look pale in comparison. Also, the AA's sound interesting. I wonder if it means something like the scene in Episode 1 where R2D2 goes outside the ship and repairs it while sliding along the surface? that would be pretty cool. I think this has the potential to be a killer upgrade, even with the 3D glasses.

Along with spitting in your face, and smelling stuff, you get 3-D glasses thrown at you too.
