And like Monsters Vs. Aliens before it, it was a guaranteed pleaser for the horror movie buffs, but a bit of a letdown for the rest of us who weren't in on the jokes.

It also showed the effects of too much focus-grouping, in the form of some flagrant foreshadowing that they completely forgot to include the payoff for.

Unfortunately the new version is the short expanded with nothing really new.
I kind of thought he would have used the short as a springboard for something better. But no, it is just an expanded telling of a story that deserved to be a short.

I found the movie kind of disappointing. It wasn't very funny, and quite gruesome. Exploding animals? Zombie sea-monkeys? Mutant bat/cats? Not working. I prefer the live-action short made back in the day.

Still, it is quite amazing that people still make stop-motion animated films nowadays.

Needless to say I found the story unoriginal. But my son wanted me to go with him to see it so I didn't totally hate it.
