Anyone remember the "GoodTimes" videos that began showing up on store shelves back in the late 80s? These were essentially very cheap VHS knock-off of all the Disney animated films that got prime display space in a number of stores. Well, it turns out that a lot of people bought these films, and when marketers surveyed these folks they would mistakenly identify these products as being made by Disney. Apparently, Joe Consumer thinks that any film with Snow White or Pinnochio or any other fair tale character is automatically a "Disney" film. These GoodTimes videos made a serious dent in Disney's quality ratings as more people expressed displeasure with the quality of the GoodTimes product. So, Disney made an effort to enter the genre themselves and put the GoodTimes folks out of business.

Now, there's always the debate about the quality of the Disney D2V product, but you have to go back to see what the competing product was on the video store shelves at the time to see a direct comparison of what people were buying before Disney entered the D2V business.

    Just wondering.
