are the storybook boats on a rail?

    The verion in Paris actually has the boats connected to an underwater cable, not a rail. The cable is stretched between several horizontal wheels (also underwater) to guide the boats around the turns. The circular loading platform constantly moves, keeping pace with the boats (similar to an omnimover), which are all spaced apart evenly by staying attached to the cable.

    Conceptually, the system is kind of like an upside-down underwater chairlift (one of the traditional, non-express, ones).
