I’m not sure if I should post this here but I didn’t want to post it in the “Disneyland General†section. It’s mostly of a rant about a co-workers trip:

Here is the deal, we’re huge Disneyland fans and we lived in So. Cal until March of this year when we moved to Las Vegas. Well, we renewed our passes and went for 2 days last month. It was my husband, myself, an 18, 14 and 10 year olds as well as our 23 month old son. As usual, Disneyland/DCA is always great and we had a wonderful time even though we didn’t get to do as much because we were back and forth to the hotel for my 2 year to take his naps.

When we got back to Vegas I couldn’t stop talking about how much I love DL and how much fun my 2 year old had. Keep in mind he as been going since he was 9 weeks old, but this was the trip that he actually got to interact and do more things. This was the first time he interacted with the characters and he absolutely loved Tigger and Mickey and he got to walk around more freely than in the past just because he is more independent now.

So after all this gushing about DL my co-worker decided it sounded fun and she would plan a trip for herself, her daughter and son-in-law and her 2 year old grandson at the end of July. I got her so excited about it, I printed her maps and gave her tips and told her where to eat and what to do and all the things my son loved about DL. I even let her borrow my Disney Vacation planning video so they would be more familiar with everything. **She was going to wait until next year when her grandson was 3 but she said since my son had such a wonderful time she would take them this year.**

Well, she got back last night and this morning I was expecting her to be so excited about her trip and give me detail after detail and guess what? She hated it! (Okay, well not hated it, but I think she is playing it up for me, because I can overhear her telling everyone else how bad it was.)
They hated the food, hated the lines, she got sunburned even with sun block. They spent most of their time at DCA instead of DL because they said it was unbearably packed. They picked a hotel that was like 10 mins away so they opted not to go back to the hotel for her grandson’s naps and so they left the park before 9 or whatever because everyone was soooo tired so they didn’t even catch the fireworks or 1 parade, let alone Fantasmic. Then she goes on to say that they stopped at the beach for a couple of hours on Sunday and that that was the best and they should have spent all their time at the beach instead of Disneyland.

The whole reason she went on this trip was because I said how much fun we had and it just felt like a complete kick in the gut. I feel like I made her spend all this money and they didn’t even have such a good time. **She told my other coworkers that she just felt that her grandson was too young to take him and they should have waited.**

I know I shouldn’t feel so bad, all kids are different and just because my son had a wonderful time doesn’t mean her grandson would. It doesn’t seem like they even made an effort to have fun. I guess it’s true, you either love Disneyland or you hate it. I don’t think it can grow on you if you don’t have an open mind. Now I guess I just feel weird, like my coworkers probably wonder why I am such a Disneyland freak and wonder what all the hoop-la is about.

Some people just don't tour properly. You can give them all the info, all the details, stress how important it is to take the kidlets back for a nap, and if they don't follow your advice, they're going to have a horrible time.

I went with my mom, sister, brother, SIL, nephew, my 2 girls, and 2 cousins. I had a touring plan all ready, and the other adults didn't want to follow it. So we had a horrible day. Not my fault.

I don't think you should be upset. YOU had a good time. If she didn't follow suggestions (which, come on, they're really more like laws to us Disney freaks) then it's not your fault.

And she should not have gone in July. Period. Not for a first trip for a 2 year old. Even August would have been better. September - November would have been optimal. I would never take my kids in July (well, I braved it on the 4th with my big kid, but it wasn't bad).

Sorry you're feeling badly about this.

So, don't worry, some people are never happy..

The number one people I always tell people (since people know I am a Disney freak and always ask haha) is to stay close! And we ALWAYS leave from about 1-4 or so it's just too crowded then.

I think you should refer your coworker to a dl approved therapist - because obviously something is wrong with anyone who doesn't have a blast at DL!!!
