So you could go straight to DCA turnstiles, but as you pointed out, you need to go to Disneyland sometime that day (like maybe when you leave DCA, as it almost always closes prior to Disneyland) and go to the Bank of Main Street to get your photo taken and have Disney exchange the Gift Card for an actual AP.
