I just realized that I have a problem! I intend to rent a DL wheelchair for her, but how can I get her to the rental area? (She's too weak to walk all that way.) She uses a walker for short distances; I can seat her backwards on the walker and push her to the rentals, but then what do I do with the walker when I get the wheelchair?

Does DL allow someone to rent a wheelchair and then push it out to the drop-off area on Harbor to pick up a guest with such needs?

Hopefully someone out there has some information on this. We'd like to make this as enjoyable as possible.

    Thanks so much!

Seriously, Disney's chairs are NOT known for comfort and it will be worth the extra money (if any) to keep your sister as comfortable as possible on your trip. You will then have it available to you the entire trip as an added bonus.

We have used another company down there in the past and always had problems but with Deckert's we have always been pleased.

We have also found that it has been cheaper for us to rent from Deckert's rather than from the park. The other advantage is that there are times that the DLR is out of wheelchairs or scooters and you have to wait until one is turned in before being able to rent one.

When you rent a wheelchair from an outside source, (which we always did when my Darling Mom went with us) always tie (knot them ) on colorful ribbons so that you can

1)identify your chair in a crowd and it discourages someone from just taking it

    2) when we would be gone for a period of time away from the chair-we brought a light weight bike lock and would close up the chair and lock the wheels together-you cannot lock the chair to anything at the park (the CMs will cut your lock) but you can lock the wheels together.

    3) we always brought a chair pad from home because a wheelchair needs some padding to be comfy to sit in for long periods of time

    4) bring a lightweight blanket with you-you can store it in the lockers if you don't end up needing it-but my Mom would get cold faster than those of us who were walking and not just sitting like she was

    Hope that helps!
