I was just blown away by the clever plot, the characters, the scope, the references to the attraction, and the balance they struck between pirate-y violence and, for lack of a better term, family friendliness. I REALLY disliked "Dead Man's Chest". It didn't preserve the things I liked so much about the first. And since I was so fond of COTBP, I was upset that DMC let me down. This time, I didn't have high expectations going into the movie. And "At World's End" STILL disappointed me. But at least this time I didn't get so upset about it. Lessee. What not to like... The on-screen sadistic violence. (Hanging a child and shooting the women in the steam bath for starters.) The gross-out scenes. (What's with the writers and toes?!) The impossible-to-follow plot. The fact that the secret and changing allegiances make it hard to connect emotionally with any of the main characters. The times when the effects were cheesy-looking. Angel Jack and Devil Jack appearing on his shoulders -- and the other devices that screamed, "Hey, you're watching a MOVIE!" The fact that the only reference to the attraction (that I caught) was the jarring inclusion of some of the ride's actual soundtrack. The fact that characters' magical powers came and went to suit the plot. For me, the movie got to where it was just numbing. I gave up, sat back and watched things blow up and people get skewered.

There wasn't MUCH from the ride, but I suppose by the time you've got through two other movies there's not a lot left to include without it looking forced. I really enjoyed AWE. The one thing that disappointed me about it was that there was less 'piratey' fun and more supernatural stuff, but it didn't particularly bother me. All in all I would probably put this after COTBP and before DMC, if I had to choose (although I've thoroughly enjoyed all three). I loved the fact that you got to see more about all the other characters, rather than having the focus just on Jack - who I absolutely adore, but it was nice seeing more of Tia Dalma and the rest. >>The gross-out scenes.<< I didn't really think there was much gross stuff in the movie - well, I quite happily ate for virtually the entire three hours without having to close my eyes, anyway I did think watching them hang the boy (and the others) was a bit surprising for a Disney movie, but I guess it was needed to show how bad things really were.

I must have missed -- or not recognized -- other lines. Thanks, Liberty Belle! <<I loved the fact that you got to see more about all the other characters, rather than having the focus just on Jack - who I absolutely adore, but it was nice seeing more of Tia Dalma and the rest.>> I agree. Random action memory here... You know one little thing I didn't like? When Jack was choosing a crew and he rejected Ragetti: "Not you. You scare me." Both Ragetti and Pintel showed up as crewmen, of course, so maybe Jack was kidding. But his comment seemed to come out of nowhere and felt mean to me!

(What's with the writers and toes?!)>> I totally agree. While the movie overall was fun, these practically ruined the whole thing for me. Curse of the Black Pearl has a great balance of action and violence without being too gory. This one seemed bound and determined to push the PG-13 rating as far as it could go. I hope that Disney is more careful with Prince of Persia, or I may just have to stop watching these films.

The plot was super hard to understand. I didn't know at any one time who had a deal with who or if one was breaking one deal with another and for what. It was just darn confusing. (I thought more so that DMC) I also disliked the Jack intro. I don't know what the purpose of all the Jack's were, except to show his own paranoia and wackiness. We all know how kookie Jack is. Look at his walk, for goodness sake. That's part of his charm. We don't need 100 of him to remind us. LOL(I know he was in the locker and that it may have been to show his own 'hell'?) Help clarify, people. It seemed cheesy to me. Also the fact that it semi followed him out of the locker in the movie. One other thing I disliked was that there was too much Elizabeth! She seemed to be in every scene, and while her character is very likable, I just wanted a little more 'boy' action. I really liked Keith Richards popping in. That was great. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the references to the ride. Tia was fun until the end, and then it just got weird. I really need to see it again to try and understand the plot better. I thought the first scene was actually pretty powerful and I have to admit that I laughed out loud pretty hard at the toe falling off. (Although right after it showed Elizabeth in sandals with perfectly health feetsy.) I'm a huge Pirates fan, and went an hour early with my son and both of us wearing our Pirates shirts. While my few complaints were small annoyances, it was still Jack, Will, and Elizabeth, and it didn't keep me from leaving the theatre with a big smile on my face! O' and definitely watch the scene after the credits!!

But that is the only part i had a problem with. I loved all the actions scenes within the first ten minutes of the film and barbossa was his usual wicked self. I thought that this film had alot of funny lines and good wit similar to that of the first movie, and i loved the last two battle scenes, great specail effects!!!! I want to see this movie again. I loved the way they ended it, they can pave way for a possible fourth movie. i would pay to see a pirates movie with barbossa and jack going at it again. loved the monkey, he stole every scene he was in. This movie went extremely fast, at least for me anyway. and i loved the references to the ride especailly the water fall, the darkness and then hearing the soundtrack from the ride, i loved it! and i knew the dog with the keys had to come in somewhere. and keith richards was awesome! i loved how much elizabeth swan grew in this third installment, and loved the fact that everyone was going against each other to get what they wanted.

Of course they aren't doing the script but they are doing the storyline for National Treasure 2 so that probably means that movie is going to be really bad.

The two parts I hated and felt had no place in this movie: the giant Tia Dalma/Calypso and the hang-gliding. Someone please just edit those out, thanks.

Some things that stood out for me as being particularly entertaining: - the rousing soundtrack - the song at the hangings - the Singapore battle - the Dutchman laying waste to the Pirates montage - Jack's entrance (mirroring film 1) - the "rocking-the-boat" sequence - the "hoist the colors" sequence - the monkey in the cannon (it got the loudest cheer from the audience) - Captain Teague - Barbossa - The surprise ending The theater was packed with an energetic audience - mostly high school age - and it definitely added to the fun - they were laughing, cheering and applauding in all the right places. Sure, there were some non-sequitur moments, but in a film that's designed to be a summer theme park ride, they are easily forgivable. Most fun movie experience I've had in a while, hope it does well for Disney and its makers.

Elizabeth's part was a bit much, and not enough Orlando Bloom for my taste I also think that the part with Captain Jack seeing himself as his crew was weird, but understandable, but when they were back to the "real" world, and he continued to see himself and the angel/devil on his shoulder parts were too much. It bordered on ridiculous. I couldn't watch him lick his brain either!!! Overall though, I liked the movie, and followed it just fine. There are a few things I would cut though. Someone tell me about the scene after the credits. I didn't stay

The gross scenes didn't bother me at all. (Except when Jack kept licking things. What was up with that?!) I have one question. It's probably super obvious, and I'm just being a ditz, but why exactly did Will need the Black Pearl to free his dad? Wasn't it just the heart he should have been after? I know when one of you brilliant people answer, it's gonna be a 'duh' moment for me, but bring it on! The ending scene after the credits showed Elizabeth with a nine year old boy (it was 10 years later). Will arrived back after his 10 years of service to his beloved waiting for him, unlike Davy's return to an absent Tia.
