It's a great site and for a movie nerd like me that loves to follow box office numbers it was great. A few years back the site was bought out by Amazon/IMDB and things hummed along as usual. One of the things that kept me and others back to the site was it's message board community. Like Laughing Place it had a thriving community that brought people together threw a common interest. Here it's Disney. There it was the box office. And much like here people started to express their other interests in politics, sports, books, tv and just life in general. They also had what was called the Box Office Derby which you could pick what the top ten would be that weekend at the box office. Well last week the message boards went down which happens from time to time with just about every website. So most people thought that it would be fixed. Several days passed and nothing happened. Well a couple days later as people tried to log in there was a message stating that Box Office Mojo has discontinued the message boards and the Box Office Derby game. But the members were welcomed to post on the IMDB forums. First the IMDB forums are just horrible. You have to click on each individual post to read it. And most importantly they didn't tell anyone about this. Not even to the moderators of the board. It was just shut down. It was a really crappy thing to do to people who were very loyal. It was through IMDB I was able to find that people set up a temporary home at mojorefugees.proboards.com. One of the moderators started up his own box office site called Box Office Theory and that he will be starting up a message board there. It makes me happy the LP is still run by the original owners of the site.
