It was beautiful and amazing.

"Woman of the Year" ---------- 1981 was a big year for me. I moved away in April from Orange County--from all of my lifelong, childhood friends--to the high desert of Southern CA. It was a good but scary move, and a whole new world out here. Funny, when I read the popular songs, they remind me of living either here or there. Rapture & Tide is High, both by Blondie, for some reason remind me of P.E. class in Orange County. ("And you get in your car and you drive real far, And you drive all night and then you see a light, And it comes right down and lands on the ground, And out comes a man from Mars!")... okay, anyway... and Kiss on My List totally reminds me of living in the desert and riding the bus to school with all my new friends. That always seemed to be on the radio when I'd get on the bus. I remember talking to my friend Traci Campbell, who was THE most popular girl in school, very blonde and bubbly and almost Marilyn Monroe-ish, and that song always made me think of her. Funny, 20 years later at our reunion, she was more like Anna Nicole Smith than Marilyn Monroe! LOL Go figure. Anyway, good memories. I loved jr high. Except for not making the cheerleading squad, but we won't go into THAT right now. ;-P
