I remember that not having that gold effect on it and I very much preferred it without the gold...

More pink or not, I am still very excited about all the refurbishments going on at the moment. One can only hope that they will finally be smart and not let this investment they make at the moment disappear again by not just keeping things in good shape on a regular basis.

This castle always seemed "try hard" to me. And yes, I DO understand the thinking that went into creating it. In trying to make it SO different and ornate it just comes across as "off" to me.

But I must admit, I DO like the idea of a dragon in the basement!

See, for me that is the worst one, looks too boxy and military in style, but I have been to 100's of real castles and am geeky about this stuff. DLP's ia my fav, followed by DL.

ORWEN: Oh, you are the most annoying old biddy on the planet, Orgoch!! Just don't pay any attention to her Bob Paris 1, duckling! Unless, that is, you'd like to share your castle with a short, toothless old hag like her--along with that dragon you like so much. You're welcome to take her home and away from us ANY time!!

But I would agree with Dave on this issue. I think it might have something to do with the fact that castles are part of everyday life here in Europe. And many aren't the old sturdy ones which look impressive but rather plain, but there are lots of whimsical ones as well. Especially in the 19th century during the era of Romanticism lots of castles were enhanced or even built to look like from a fairy tale. Neuschwanstein, which was one of the main influences for Cinderella's castle was built in the late 19th century for example.

So I think the one at DLP is quite genius in taking that already existing "fake castle culture" in Europe to a new level. Everything else would have just left a bit of a bad taste with the audience, like: why are those Americans copying what we have in real life? I think this way it is a castle that truly has its roots in Fantasyland and not any place in Europe.

Now you see, I prefer Disneyland's to WDW's. It is more charming and storybook like. Disneyland has a different feel, cozy, do to the scale.

And Shanghai might end up with the most computer animation look? Isn't it supposed to look like the castle shown at the beginning of the Disney films?

OK, I'm going to get slammed for saying this, but I really think the DL/HKDL castle is my least favorite. As lovely and as iconic as they are, and the Anaheim castle is just too dang small to be the centerpiece of what is the best known and most beloved theme park in the world. DLP's is definitely my favorite (but then again, everything about that park is my favorite) followed by the WDW/TDL castles.

Here is a rendering. It's nice, but not as elegant or as graceful as the WDW/TDL versions. I'm not overly impressed by it, but who knows what the final version will look like.
