Well although there are officially 2 weeks left to the season - I think the lights have been turned off and the party is over. 7.5 GB with 13 left ---

Yesterday had to be especially hard watching Z throw a no-no in your park - although we are doing you a favor by beating the Astro's -who are only 2 games in your rear view mirror.

Yost appears like he may cost you guys even the playoffs _( well that and not shoring up the bullpen ) -

If Sabbathia's arm doesn't fall off between now and the end of the season, I sure hope the Cubs take a longlook at him as he has proven he can be an 'ace' in the NK

Who knows maybe both.

As for the management, I think our GM Doug Melvin might be safe. The majority of the coaching staff will be gone starting first and foremost with Fredo Yost. He's on the fishing boat right now.

On a much happier note(for now) that Rodgers kid up in Green Bay looks all right.

I didn't watch, I'm really in an anti-baseball mood right now. What I want to know is how did Bud Lundegard Selig(named after William H Macy's character in Fargo) even allowed for that game to be played up there. Houston has every right to be angry about that.

Even Selig couldn't givein to the Astro's who wanted to play them in Houston - where people have no freakin power - roads are flooded and they have bigger issues than the Astro.s When McLane issued the statement that minutemaid park survived without major damagei thought here we go. What about the workers at the park - I am sure they don't have McLane's money ( I notice uncle Bud gave him nice seats for the game yesterday ) - were they supposed to hop in a canoe and head to the park ? I actually believe Selig was thinking about it - which is reprehensible. Nothing was acceptable to McLane except Houston - you hate to think it's about money but he lost 3 sold out dates with the Cubs - I hope that didn't cloud his judgement on what was right. Bud still let him keep 1 - which while everyone elseis resting may cause the Cubs to travel to Houston on the off day before the playoffs. Hendry ought to send the AAA team to that one to make a point asto how stupid that decision is.

As for Milwaukee instead of Houston or somewhere else- at least I heard the Astros GM say this morning on radio here- that Z would have thrown ano hitter in Houston, Milwaukee or Europe with the stuff he had yesterday. Finally someone involved from the Astro's end with a brain.

As for Brewers fans- you should be glad as the Cubs knocking off the charging Astro's only helps you.

The bullpen isn't very good and a statue could get to a ball in leftfield quicker than Braun so the comeback in the 9th isn't that surprising. But how can you have 2nd and 3rd with no one out and come up short? And to get caught off of third on a ground ball.

This month has just been a disaster and Ned Yost was going to be gone anway. He lost the team this month but never really had full control to begin with. He always wanted to be friends with his players and not do what was best for the team. I'm sorry but Rickie Weeks hitting .230 and below for most of the season as a lead off man just doesn't cut it. Leaving pitchers in too long. Doing bush league stuff like plunking the Cubs in game four of a four game series at Miller Park after we've been embarassed.

Of course there was the players too. Our other "ace" Ben Sheets can't stay healthy and didn't win a game for almost a month. He's leaving next year and I say good riddance. Manny Parra just pitched way too many innings. Jeff Suppan and Dave Bush were way too inconsistent this year. Losing Yovanni Gallardo really hurt. I shudder to think were this team would be with out CC Sabathia. The less said about the bullpen the better.

I mentioned Ricky Weeks before. Prince Fielder goes nearly a month without hitting a home run. Corey Hart hasn't produced since the All Star Break. You had guys hitting below .250 at one point during the season Jason Kendall, Mike Cameron and Bill in the lineup several times. JJ Hardy has been up and down all year he'd have a 15 game hitting streak then go 0-32. The only guy I'm not going to really come down on is Ryan Braun because I think he's been hurt more than we've been lead to believe.

Despite all of this we've managed to win 84 games but to quote Bull Durham: "How did we win 84 games? It's a miracle."

Edward takes a stab at writing this year’s “Go Cubs Go,” or possibly “The Cubbies Are Rockin’.” Sure, it’s not quite as boundy as “Men In Blue,” but what’s what happens when you write a Cubs song and don’t ask Gary Woods and Jody Davis to perform on it. (Most of the lyrics can be found here or here.)

The version here is from Ed’s pre-set at the Vic in August 2007; it’s a little rougher-sounding but that should be taken care of on that official release.

Someday We’ll Go All the Way”

Yeah, don’t let them say that it’s just a game.
Well, I’ve seen other teams, and it is never the same.
When you go to Chicago, you’re blessed and you’re healed,
The first time you walk into Wrigley Field.

Heroes with pinstripes and heroes in blue,
Give us the chance to feel like heroes do.
Whether we’ll win and if we should lose,
We know someday we’ll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way.

We are one with the Cubs,
With the Cubs we’re in love.
Hold our heads tall as the underdogs.
We are not fairweather, but farweather fans.
Like brothers in arms, in the streets and the stands.
There’s magic in the ivy and the old scoreboard.
The same one I stared at as a kid keeping score.
In a world full of greed, we could never want more.
And someday we’ll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way.
Well, someday we’ll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way.

And here’s to the men and the legends we’ve known.
Giving us faith and giving us hope.
United we stand, and united we’ll fall,
Down to our knees the day we win it all.
Yeah Ernie Banks said, “Oh, let’s play two!”
I think he meant two hundred years.
In the same ballpark our Wrigley, our diamond, our jewel.
The home of our joy and our fears.
    Keeping traditions, and wishes anew,
The place where our grandfathers’ fathers they grew.
The spiritual feeling if I ever knew.
And when the day comes for that last winning run,
And I’m crying and covered with beer.
I look to the sky and know I was right today.
Someday we’ll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we’ll go all the way.
