As for the Pirate's Lair idea, I'm also on the fence about it, but leaning more towards really liking it. I do have fond memories of the old island, but that's not really a good reason to keep it the way it was. Also, it's been kind of neutered over the last few years, so it's not even as good as I remember it anyway. If it brings more attention to it, and is a lot of fun (and not too noisy from NOS), I'm fine with it.

I got a chance to go to DL a couple of weeks ago. I don't go that often. I saw the same spot that was photographed and placed prominently on MiceAge. It is not representative of the overall condition of the ship. I was very impressed with the great condition of nearly every nook and cranny of DL while I was there. Unfortunately, it only takes one close-up photograph of a 2-foot section of molding on the Mark Twain to make the internet world believe that the place is falling apart. I'd say that the molding in question needs to get fixed, but I also expect that it's not something that you can just slap paint on and fix overnight. I don't doubt that stuff like this goes into a deferred maintenance plan for the next overhaul availability just like in every maintenance organization.

Originally Posted By Hans Reinhardt I'm not sure if that's wood rot or just damage from wear and tear. Either way it's hardly surprising considering how old that thing is and how over-used it is. In any case, it's good to hear that it may be repaired soon.
Originally Posted By ArchtMig I looked at Darkbeer's pics and some of it looks definately to be wood rot, and some other areas look like impact damage. The Twain is made of wood, and it's old. Two things that contribute to the need for regular, routine maintenance and repairs. They do drydock it regularly and replace and repair things that need it. They'll do it again, no doubt.
