I could be allergic to everything and wouldn't pay more than my healthy girlfriend. Of course we pay higher taxes to fund that system.
Originally Posted By FerretAfros >>Is it that easy for insurance companies to change your contract?<< Pretty much. Since the companies aren't required to accept everybody (or weren't in the past, I'm not sure about the Obamacare changes), they could pretty much set the terms however the wanted. Pre-existing conditions, like allergies, diabetes, or any number of other long-term conditions can all affect the rates you pay, since you will presumably require more medical care in the future than someone without the conditions That's also part of the reason that some people stick with the same insurers for a very long time, since it can be very difficult to get new insurance once you've discovered that you have a condition, but they're much less likely to completely drop you if you're already with them

Works for me most of the time, passing by a Taco Bell notwithstanding. (There's wheat in the meat at Taco Bell.) My problem is, my patience is wearing thin. >:-|
