You needed them to balance out the action. I found it to be one of my favorites that Pixar has done, and especially Ellen Degeneres' performance as Dory. To me it would not have been the same movie without her, her and Albert Brooks made a great pair. My Sister took her grandson to see it, he is 3 and it held his attention while it did the same for us older folks. I loved the references to the other movies too, it is something we have come to expect. They are very ingenous those folks at Pixar, plus as you said they invest their creatures with heart. I wonder if Disney is listeing, one could only hope.

In fact, this is my favorite Pixar film to date. Ellen as Dory is just inspired. And all the action in the fish tank -- great stuff. I'm usually very sensitive to 'bodily function' humor [I don't like it] but with the 'I inked myself' and the pelican scene ['nice'], it didn't bother me.

How these artist pour their hearts into a film amazes me. They manage to begin with childhood memories, imagination and charm, and add plenty of smart and savvy humor to satisfy any adult. I'd gladly take Pixar's films over Shrek any day. And don't even get me started on the animation. WOW.
