I am very much convinced that John Lasseter is using his power backstage to push his own creations ahead of other Pixar and Disney ideas. John created and directed Toy Story 1 and 2, plus he also did the same for Cars, and both brands are going to be featured heavily in future attractions. The fact Disney are building two Toy Story land's at the same time leads me to think its a cost saving measure. As the Carnival rides will be built by a third party it probarely will save a bit of money to order them in bulk.

For some time now, new and refurbished attractions have been constructed so that riders exit directly into gift shops. Toy Story and Cars earn Disney hundreds of millions if not billions in aftermarket product sales every year. Pushing TS and Cars into the parks and resorts seems like a no brainer for pumping up the bottom line. Remember... it's all about synergy. Which of course is another way of saying "exploiting the brand."
