I'll be curious to see when they actually start construction. I hope that we get one last chance to see it in January (since it's one of the most iconic photo backdrops along the marathon course) but I wouldn't be upset if they were already taking it down by then

    ORGOCH: Got foresight?

There's potentially space near that round planter, which is currently used for the park's Christmas tree. I worry that the hat will be too big for the entrance plaza area, and that it could potentially mess with the forced perspective of TOT from Sunset Blvd

On a related note, I'm excited that the park's Christmas tree will be able to move back into the park itself. It always made me a little sad that the Studios and DAK relegated their Christmas trees outside the turnstiles

I have not been to DCA since they changed the entrance, so I did not recognize it. I liked the old CALIFORNIA letters better. At any rate here is a photo of Disney's Hollywood Studios. It, like DCA, has a large plaza in front where the Hat would go nicely.

Although the hat would fit in the plaza in front of the park, I think it would be overpowering for that area, regardless of how it would look next to TOT. The tree looks fine out there since it has a relatively small footprint and isn't super tall. I worry that having a huge structure like the hat out there would look like someone trying to wear clothes that are a few sizes to small

Although I see your point, it is centered in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater which isn't nearly that wide... maybe 150 feet at most. The Hat clearly dwarfs the theater. I still think it might work in the entrance plaza. The only other place in the park where it would make any sense is along the entrance walkway to the Fantasmic amphitheater. That location would almost certainly interfere with the Tower of Terror view.

Another option would be to rebuild a downsized version of the Hat for the entry plaza. That would probably be no more difficult than trying to reassemble the existing one. Personally, I doubt it will be moved at all due to the expense... just torn down.

They really are! I like the idea of moving it to the spot out front. Seems like a good focal point for photo op.
