The floats were comming out of the Pacific Warf gate instead of Sunshine Plaza. This was around 8:30 pm, well after park had closed for the day. But I'm guessing they did this so that guest exiting Disneyland wouldn't be able to see the floats from the other side of the DCA main entrance.

In about a year or so, they will be tearing out the Sunshine Plaza area, and replacing it with something that looks more like 1920's LA. Part of that changeover will include narrowing the walkways and adding a trolley line through there, making it virtually impossible to get a decent sized parade through there. So, they are simply shortening the route to start by the factories, since there will still be plenty of viewing room, based on the crowds that previous parades have seen (even with more people in the park).
